My name is Wendy Sitzer and I am so excited to be teaching at Weiner Elementary School of Innovation this year!
I grew up here in Weiner. I went to Kindergarten in Weiner, and graduated from Weiner High School in 1998. My father, Alvie Pate, worked for the Weiner School District as a maintenance man and a bus driver. My mother, Reba Pate, owned a beauty shop in Weiner for many years. I am very proud of where I came from.
I went to Arkansas State University in Jonesboro on a Vocal Music Scholarship. While there, I participated in the University Singer's Choir, Women's Choir, and vocal studio with Mrs. Julia Lansford. I also performed in two student operas at ASU. I was always the antagonist, or very dark, brooding character. TOTALLY, not like me at all!! But, that's what is fun about theater--you get to pretend to be someone else. I was also the President of my music fraternity for women, known as SAI, or Sigma Alpha Iota. I graduated from ASU with a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, and a minor in Music.
I taught Music, and other subjects including art, reading interventions and resource classes, at Augusta Elementary in Augusta, Arkansas for three years. During that time, I attended Harding University where I graduated with a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Special Education.
I went on to teach Learning Lab classes for the Cabot School District for 7 years. In that time, I learned a great deal about teaching, children, and what kind of teacher I wanted to be. I believe that all children can learn. Every child may learn differently, but they can all be successful. I love finding new ways to help children learn.
On August 1, 2015, I married Tyler Sitzer. My daughter, Libby, and I moved back home to Weiner. I am so glad that Libby will get to grow up in the town that made me who I am today!
