The kids have been working hard on their Ensemble productions/performances. They were put into groups and had to learn to work together in order to create a masterpiece of music proportions.

It's getting closer to Halloween!!! And you know what that means!?!? CAROLING!!!
Did I say Caroling? Yes, yes I did. Kindergarten through second grade students have been working on learning some Halloween songs to sing next week for all the students at Weiner Elementary School. We will merrily walk through the hallowed halls of our fine school and lift the spirits of the goblins and ghouls that rest there with our song! I'm so excited I can't stand it! I'm a little late in posting and I apologize! It's been a crazy couple of weeks in the music department at Weiner Elementary School. Last week we performed our Arias! Above you'll see pictures of our 3rd and 4th graders performing. I actually got a really good video of a couple of 4th graders performing, but I haven't figured out how to put it on here just yet.
This past week, we learned about recitative in our 3-6 grade music classes. Mr. Hicks and I performed a little example of a recitative for the students and they enjoyed it tremendously. They all started working on writing and performing their own recitatives for this coming week. I'm hoping to have more pictures to post and hopefully a video or two. In Kindergarten through 2nd grade, we are working on learning more nursery rhymes. We have mastered the Humpty Rap, Hickory Dickory Dock, and The Itsy Bitsy Spider. We are on to learning Jack and Jill and Hey Diddle Diddle. We have learned all about rhyming words and why they rhyme. We are also learning to sing acapella, or without instrumental music. Overall, music has been fun and educational. We are all looking forward to what will happen next! The first week of school was a great success!!! Students enjoyed getting to know Mrs. Wendy and learning some fun new songs! Ask your child about the frog song, or the Sit Down, Stand Up song!
Next week, we will dive into our projects for the semester. Kindergarten through 2nd grades will start learning all about nursery rhymes and the music that goes with them. They will learn to make a song out of a nursery rhyme, and they will learn why a nursery rhyme is a rhyme. We will talk a lot about rhyming words and ending sounds in words. They will be starting with Humpty Dumpty. We will explore a funk rap fusion version of Humpty Dumpty by Eric Litwin. You can listen to it here. 3rd through 6th grades will begin their Opera unit with a discussion of an operatic aria. An aria is a solo sung in an opera. Students will watch a portion of Mozart's "The Magic Flute" to experience the aria "The Queen of the Night." This particular aria gives me chills because of the bounces in the singer's voice. I can't even imagine doing that, on stage, with perfection! It's stunning! You can view the clip here. It's going to be a great week at WES!!!! Come join the fun!!!! On August 15, 2016, we will start a new school year. Kiddos will come through our doors happy, excited to see friends, and ready to learn. Many will be tired from being off their sleep schedule, many will be anxious about their new teacher, and many will just be looking forward to recess! It's an exciting time to be at Weiner Elementary.
This year, I am planning a lot of great, fun activities for the music classroom. Kindergarten and First Grade will be doing a lot of learning about nursery rhymes and the ABC's. 2nd grade will be working on some Arkansas History. 3rd-6th grade will be working on an opera unit. Kids are going to learn a lot in our weekly, 40 minute classes. Keep an eye on this page to learn about upcoming music activities. We will be having a Christmas Sing Along, an Arkansas music program, and maybe even an opera night!! I will also be posting to the Weiner Elementary Music Facebook page. So, be sure to add that to your Facebook experience. Thank you for allowing me to work with your students. It's going to be a fabulous year!!! |
