The first week of school was a great success!!! Students enjoyed getting to know Mrs. Wendy and learning some fun new songs! Ask your child about the frog song, or the Sit Down, Stand Up song!
Next week, we will dive into our projects for the semester. Kindergarten through 2nd grades will start learning all about nursery rhymes and the music that goes with them. They will learn to make a song out of a nursery rhyme, and they will learn why a nursery rhyme is a rhyme. We will talk a lot about rhyming words and ending sounds in words. They will be starting with Humpty Dumpty. We will explore a funk rap fusion version of Humpty Dumpty by Eric Litwin. You can listen to it here. 3rd through 6th grades will begin their Opera unit with a discussion of an operatic aria. An aria is a solo sung in an opera. Students will watch a portion of Mozart's "The Magic Flute" to experience the aria "The Queen of the Night." This particular aria gives me chills because of the bounces in the singer's voice. I can't even imagine doing that, on stage, with perfection! It's stunning! You can view the clip here. It's going to be a great week at WES!!!! Come join the fun!!!!
